Hello everyone,
After reading quietly for a while and really appreciating all the ideas shared here, I’d like to bring up a topic and hopefully get some feedback, suggestions, and ideas!
I am 34 years old and originally from Munich, where I was born and raised.
Currently, we (my wife and I, with a child on the way, my sister and her partner, as well as my parents) are discussing whether to completely rebuild on our plot of land (currently occupied by a single-family house / 1000 sqm (0.25 acres) / 20 × 50 m (65 × 164 ft) / no zoning plan). The idea is to build a fairly modern house with two spacious living areas (each with its own terrace overlooking the garden, large living and dining areas, etc., and about 200 sqm (2150 sq ft) of living space), including an underground garage and a basement. A granny flat (or accessory dwelling unit) is also planned to be integrated.
I would like to start a discussion based on these ideas and am looking forward to any input or constructive criticism.
Thank you very much.

Here are a few sentences about what is currently happening on our construction site.
Last week, most of the shoring elements were moved using the shown mobile crane, as the underground garage area is almost completely poured with concrete. Since 7 a.m. this morning, a fleet of trucks has been on site to carry out the full excavation for the building. The structural team is also here—7 people as usual. Once the excavation is complete, work on the basement areas will begin, including pouring the basement slab. We are very satisfied with the structural team, who will likely be with us for the next 8-10 months. They are really nice people, skilled in their craft, and work in an organized manner. Coordination with our architect and the other trades is also going very well. We pamper them too, bringing a supply of drinks every week and at least two snack deliveries per week. I usually visit the site every day, even if only for a few minutes.
The electrical and HVAC planning are running at full speed and will be finished soon, so there are no delays expected. The contract for the elevator has already been awarded, as we will need the company for the initial work over the next four weeks.
It’s funny that our kitchen planning was completed even before the start of the structural work.
Best regards to everyone!

Well, sounds like things are going smoothly. Hopefully it stays that way. 🙂
That should actually be more standard than an exception, because it’s always better to coordinate the kitchen space AND the kitchen fixtures together. Moving finished walls by two centimeters (around 1 inch) afterwards is usually not possible, even with a crane. 😉

I'm glad to hear that. However, for such a block, there must be enough space available. Of course, if there is one or two centimeters (less than an inch) less space in front of the block than recommended, it can generally still work. But if three 60cm (24 inches) cabinets are meant to fit into a niche that is only 1.80 meters (5 feet 11 inches) wide, that can be very frustrating. That’s why we already visited the kitchen installer with the almost final designs AND then double-checked the measurements ourselves on the unfinished construction site, so that in the end, we wouldn’t be missing that crucial centimeter. Because in case of doubt, the structural builder or architect will just shrug and say: “Now it’s too late.”
