Hello everyone, I have the following issue with my IKEA Malm chest of drawers: Recently, some of the drawers no longer open or close properly. They get stuck on the slides, and when pulling them out, it feels like they are either running crooked or catching on something. The front does not appear warped, and I have already checked if anything inside is blocking the drawer. The chest of drawers is about 3 years old, has not been overloaded, and stands firmly. Does anyone have an idea what might be causing this or how I can fix the problem? Could this be wear on the drawer slides or an adjustment that needs to be made? Thanks in advance for your advice!
I would add that a commonly overlooked source of problems is the screws on the drawer front itself. Often, they loosen after some use, which can cause the front to shift slightly and the drawer to run unevenly.
When you have the drawer removed, be sure to check the screws that connect the front to the carcass. Tighten them carefully if needed, but don’t overdo it—overtightening can also cause damage.
If none of this helps, replacing the drawer slides might be necessary. Replacement parts are usually affordable and easy to find at IKEA.
Good luck with troubleshooting!
