Hello everyone, I have a specific question about my Ikea Metod kitchen: For some time now, one of the drawers has become quite loose, noticeable by wobbling and slight play when pulling it out. The drawer doesn’t stick, but it no longer slides as smoothly as it did initially. I suspect that the drawer slides are not engaging properly anymore or perhaps a screw is loose. However, I would like to fix the problem permanently without having to replace the entire drawer. Does anyone have experience with issues like this, especially with Metod drawers, and can offer advice on how to restore the drawer’s stability effectively and permanently? A guide on checking the mechanism and useful repair steps would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

If the drawer is very loose, defective clips on the front of the runner may also be the cause. Check those.

Sometimes it helps to rub some wax on the rollers

A great idea, especially if the drawer wobbles but doesn’t slide smoothly. Wax or a special furniture lubricant can work wonders. If it still wobbles, then it’s time to check the screws again. That way, your kitchen will feel much more solid!

Good morning! A quick additional note: When removing the guide rails, always take the entire drawer out first and then unscrew carefully – otherwise, you might warp the drawer! I did it the other way the first time and had to straighten everything again. 😅

That’s a good tip from parbau! Additionally, if you feel that the guide rails are warped, you can gently straighten them using pliers. Be careful not to overdo it, as the thin metal can break.

Thank you all for the helpful tips! Today, I removed the drawer and checked the screws. Some were indeed loose, and the holes were a bit worn out. I will now follow the recommendation to use wood glue and small wooden pieces and then refasten the screws. If that’s not enough, I will try the idea of using wax on the rollers. Thanks for all the practical advice and the encouraging suggestions!
