Hello community,

I’m currently putting together a Metod kitchen and can’t find any fridge-freezer combinations that fit into the METOD built-in cabinets without having to install a second shelf 10cm (4 inches) above the bottom panel. The lower sections of standard fridge-freezer units seem to have a height of about 70cm (28 inches). Because of the 20cm (8 inches) modular grid, you also lose another 10cm (4 inches) at the top, creating a second gap. Unfortunately, the lower gap can’t be covered at the front either, since the door hinge is located there. If IKEA introduces its own dimensions and kitchen appliances, one would expect them to be better coordinated. As it stands, only a 158cm (62 inches) device fits into the 178cm (70 inches) niche, leaving two impractical unused spaces.

Ah, so it is after all. It’s a shame that Ikea doesn’t offer a refrigerator with the right dimensions, but I couldn’t find a better fit anywhere else either. About 70cm (28 inches) seems to be standard for the lower section of a fridge-freezer combo, but that doesn’t seem to match the Metod system grid.

Of course, you could fill the 10cm (4 inches) gap with something, but right above the floor that’s quite impractical. You would have to recess the kickboard far enough back to still allow the hinge to be attached, which will probably be my solution. The fridge-freezer combo shown in the image linked above just looks nicer that way.

It is the very first built-in cabinet after the dishwasher fronts if you go through Ikea kitchen furniture, built-in cabinets.

Yes, it would be suitable for a refrigerator or freezer, but it is not a perfect fit for a two-door combo, as both doors would always have to be opened simultaneously. Still, thanks!

The cladding does not necessarily have to be placed behind the hinge. You can also attach it to the floor using a metal bracket.
It might also be possible to install a drawer if you use a device with flat hinges from a different manufacturer. In that case, you won't need additional hinges.

Oh sorry,
I thought from your first link that you were looking for a cabinet just for one appliance.
Then my suggestion doesn’t fit. With Faktum, it was possible to buy only the carcass, and get the doors and hinges separately. I don’t see that option with this cabinet now, but if it is possible, you could use two smaller matching doors instead of one large one.
Otherwise, these narrow compartments are a good place for unused baking sheets, large cutting boards, trays, or even instruction manuals for kitchen appliances.
