Hello everyone,
I have been an IKEA customer for many years and finally moved in with my girlfriend in January 2008. We purchased our complete apartment furniture from IKEA in December 2007, including the Kramfors sofa with brown leather.
I have receipts for all purchases except for the sofa. The sofa was delivered by a freight company and paid for in cash on delivery. I assume we did not receive a receipt from them. I wasn’t at home during the delivery, only my girlfriend was, and since we were quite busy and the sofa had to remain packed in the apartment for about 14 days, I might not have paid attention.
Now I have the same issue as others with this sofa: the leather is damaged. I have already contacted IKEA, but they don’t seem to be able to find any purchase documentation. They are also unsure which freight company delivered the sofa. I do know that the company that delivered our other furniture did not deliver the sofa.
What should we do now? We ordered the sofa on the last day of a 20% promotion in December 2007 at the IKEA store in Ludwigsburg. It was delivered in early January 2008.
Can anyone help or give me some advice? The sofa is a corner sofa consisting of two two-seater sections and a corner piece, plus an ottoman. The price was around 2000€ (about 2000 USD). It was paid for in cash upon delivery.
Thank you very much in advance…

Just as I quoted from the website, this also applies:
Unlimited time for exchange and return
Consider, try, test – as long as you want.
This is offered by IKEA on unused goods with original packaging and a valid receipt with IKEA FAMILY number (excluding discounted items, custom-made countertops, and plants).
I would go to Ludwigsburg one more time with all your existing receipts to show how much you have invested at IKEA during this period. Then, explain the situation again carefully. Provide the exact purchase date of the sofa and the day and time of delivery, and politely ask what can be done now.
If none of this helps, then I don’t know what else to suggest.

Oops, wow. Sorry, that’s quite something.
Yes, apparently this does not apply to IKEA Family customers in Germany. But it does in Austria and the Netherlands.
I only knew this from us in the Netherlands and had searched in German, but I must have landed on the Austrian site. Indeed, the unlimited return policy is not available at IKEA Germany.
Sorry.

gupppyfrau1 Oct 2009 13:53Hello to all fellow KRAMFORS victims!
Our KRAMFORS sofa has now broken down for the second time. The first time, the surface became cracked after a short period. It was replaced fairly easily under the warranty. That is, the furniture delivery service Hermes collected the old sofa and immediately brought a new one.
However, that was already more than 2 years ago, and now the surface on the seat and backrest of the "new" sofa is peeling off extensively—it looks really awful!
Because of my experience with the cracked surface, I regularly treated the sofa with IKEA leather care lotion. In hindsight, I probably would have been better off spending that money on meatballs and jelly...
Now, despite the statutory warranty period having expired, I have submitted another complaint and have been calling and emailing relentlessly for days. This problem seems well known, but I am now dependent on the goodwill of my local furniture store (in Kamen). They will decide whether or not to take up the issue.
I’m very curious to see how they will decide… Honestly, I would rather put in an extra 500€ and buy a proper new sofa—the endless exchange program can’t be the solution either.
Unfortunately, I have no idea if I have any claims against IKEA at all in case of an obvious material defect.
Regarding delivery, I can add that—as already mentioned—the company "Hermes Einrichtungsservice" from Rietberg delivered our sofas. We paid the driver directly and received a receipt confirming both the payment and the completeness of the delivery. This receipt consists of 2 DIN-A4 sheets with a large HERMES logo on them. They shouldn’t disappear that easily...

@ Admin: Can we remove this?
Besides, it’s not possible. The old leather Kramfors model has been discontinued. The new Kramfors has a completely different color. Normally, IKEA is very accommodating with the Kramfors issues since these problems are well known. Go there and say that such an expensive sofa should not look like this within 2 years. Has it already been replaced once? Is it just the seat cushion that is damaged, or the backrest as well? If the backrest is also damaged, every IKEA store should offer a replacement. That’s what IKEA stands for — goodwill and customer care.
