Hello,
My girlfriend and I want to completely renovate a house from the 1960s.
We really like the location and the house itself.
We would just like to make some slight changes to the floor plan.
For this, the entrance will be moved, and the old kitchen will basically become the new entrance.
However, we are not yet sure where we want the kitchen. We have two ideas where it could fit well: either in the extension or in the room that was previously the living room.
We’re not really sure which option we prefer.
Attached are the two versions.
It is important to us that the kitchen has direct access to the terrace. This would be the case with both versions.
If the kitchen is in the extension, the fireplace would be right next to the living room. If the kitchen is in the old living room, we would only be able to use the fireplace in the dining room, which would then be further away from the new living room.
Basically, we want an open layout. However, we want to be able to separate the kitchen with double doors or a sliding door.
But what is more practical? What will become annoying in the future? Which layout has more potential?

......I would significantly enlarge the doorway to the old kitchen (possibly a sliding door) and use the room as a library / TV room or similar. Additional window toward the parking lot. Possibly a double-leaf entrance door from the hallway into the kitchen. In the living room, a kitchen unit / countertop where the fireplace is plus around the corner, then an island. Pay attention to the spacing of the furniture. Check the countertop under the window. Significantly enlarge the window / southwest-facing side toward the garden and create an exit to the terrace.
Best regards

Anyone have any ideas? We are moving the kitchen to where the living room was. The living room will be relocated to the extension. There, the wall between the living room and dining room will be removed. Between the dining room and kitchen, there will be a double glass sliding door. From the hallway, you can access the kitchen directly, probably with a glass door to allow more light into the hallway. The kitchen will feature a nice layout with a large island plus a breakfast bar 🙂It turned out almost exactly like that. :-)
We decided to leave out the double glass sliding door and keep it open instead. More walls were removed, and we also enlarged the windows.
After two years, we are still very happy with the solution.
