Hello,
My girlfriend and I want to completely renovate a house from the 1960s.
We really like the location and the house itself.
We would just like to make some slight changes to the floor plan.
For this, the entrance will be moved, and the old kitchen will basically become the new entrance.
However, we are not yet sure where we want the kitchen. We have two ideas where it could fit well: either in the extension or in the room that was previously the living room.
We’re not really sure which option we prefer.
Attached are the two versions.
It is important to us that the kitchen has direct access to the terrace. This would be the case with both versions.
If the kitchen is in the extension, the fireplace would be right next to the living room. If the kitchen is in the old living room, we would only be able to use the fireplace in the dining room, which would then be further away from the new living room.
Basically, we want an open layout. However, we want to be able to separate the kitchen with double doors or a sliding door.
But what is more practical? What will become annoying in the future? Which layout has more potential?

Structural engineering will definitely become important if the exterior wall is going to be removed.
We will first see what our architect suggests and what he considers more practical, and whether everything is feasible.
We are aware that we want to do a lot of remodeling and changes. But the house has a solid structure.
I think it is important to us to have peace and quiet in the living room and to be able to access the terrace from the kitchen. Having direct access from the living room is not as important.
All the windows will definitely be replaced, and a few new ones will be added as well.
The floor plans are initially just ideas and more like sketches. We don’t yet know if they are feasible. That will be clarified later.
The main thing is the general layout of the rooms—figuring out which arrangement works better.

Anyone have an idea? We are now placing the kitchen where the living room used to be. The living room will be moved to the extension. The wall between the extension and the dining room will be opened up. Between the dining room and kitchen, there will be a double glass sliding door. From the hallway, you can enter the kitchen directly, probably with a glass door to allow more light into the hallway. The kitchen will have a nice layout with a large island plus a breakfast bar :-)
