Hello everyone,

We are currently in the planning phase for our kitchen (actually, the kitchen planning is scheduled for January, but we would like to gather some initial ideas and guidance now).

Attached you’ll find our floor plan. Our kitchen concept is similar to the one already drawn in.

We know the kitchen is very, very large and somewhat narrow. There should definitely be no shortage of space.

Here are some “important” measurements for better understanding:

Wall width: 3.40 m (11 ft 2 in)
Walkway width from countertop edge to tall cabinet door: approx. 2.10 m (6 ft 11 in)
Wall depth from the north-facing window to the living room door: approx. 5.50 m (18 ft 1 in)
Walkway width from “island” to tall cabinet: approx. 1.10 m (3 ft 7 in)

The proportional dimensions that are often discussed don’t really apply to this kitchen. Nevertheless, we are not particularly concerned about “walking distances,” like how far it is from the oven to the dining table or from the sofa to the refrigerator. We simply want to integrate our kitchen as best as possible into this designated space.

As shown in the plan, we considered extending the section with the “island” further downward to create more countertop space (making the island shorter but deeper to increase the walkway width between the island and the tall cabinet).

Things that definitely “should stay as they are”:

- The sink remains in front of the window, so the dishwasher should be located next to the sink—not integrated into a tall cabinet.
- The oven can be built into a tall cabinet on the right side—with the refrigerator and a pull-out pantry cabinet next to it.
- The cooktop must be installed on the wall, not on the island.

What do you think? Is it possible to come up with a good design? There is plenty of storage and a large amount of workspace, which we really love 🙂
There is no pantry included, so ample space should be available.

Take a look around the forum here.

There are many kitchen experts active here!
However, the kitchen is not very spacious. There aren’t many options. Personally, I would definitely close the passage from the hallway to the kitchen.
