Hello everyone,
We have finally received our initial preliminary drawings and are currently reviewing them in detail. Overall, everything fits our needs so far, except for the kitchen.
As shown on the plan, we are currently quite unhappy with it – in my opinion, there is very little space for tall cabinets, and the distance from one side to the other is quite long. The location of the stove on the plan also doesn’t make sense. The problem is that right now, we don’t have a complete wall without any interruptions.
At the moment, we are considering whether to
1) remove the door from the hallway to the kitchen
2) move the door all the way to the left or right
3) omit (reluctantly) or at least reduce or shift a window
4) make the opening to the living room smaller (a sliding door is planned there)
My dream would actually be to have a small bar counter with 1-2 seats. However, I find it hard to imagine this fitting into the current floor plan.
Do you perhaps have some ideas or tips for us? Also happy to hear feedback on the rest of the ground floor.
Thanks in advance!

Or enough parapet height. Yes, but then it’s a loophole window... if you like that 🙂

skip the window above the sink, you’ll have problems with the faucet there anyway Divide the window vertically into a small fixed section (ours is about 20cm (8 inches)) and the rest as a normal window, this works perfectly.
I would then place the sink in front of the wide window on the right, close the other window, and add wall cabinets there.
I would completely remove the short wall next to the living room at the bottom and create a 3m (10 feet) long and 90cm (35 inches) wide kitchen island.
I would also consider swapping the toilet and pantry to make the access somewhat more direct.
These are just some spontaneous ideas 😉
Thanks to all of you first :-)
So, it should basically be a semi-open kitchen – meaning if we had to choose, we would prefer it to be closed rather than fully open. We actually don’t want a kitchen island since we don’t really see the added value ;-)
The pantry is called that, but it will probably be used more as a general storage room for the vacuum cleaner and such, besides maybe a case of water and a few canned goods. So having a very short distance to the kitchen is not essential for us.
The window above (where the sink currently is) is a front window overlooking the garden. We really can’t do without it for purely aesthetic reasons, and it is on the side where there are no neighbors and where most of the light comes in. The window on the left could be removed more easily.
The note that the window shouldn’t be too high because of the faucet is a good point.

An architect is simply not an interior designer. However, I do not see a major problem with creating a nice island by removing a window and the short wall section below (or above). Alternatively, you can use an 80 x 80 cm (31.5 x 31.5 inches) extra-high table where you can sit around the corner if it's just meant to be a small seating area. I would keep the door inside.
