How is the practical experience with a kitchen island?
Currently, I have a standard kitchen countertop. But I’m considering a kitchen island. I’m just wondering how it is with grease splatters and similar issues. Sometimes the grease splashes quite a bit, and the area around the stove gets covered. I’ve also noticed some on the floor, since my cooktop is only about 5-10 cm (2–4 inches) from the edge.
With a kitchen island, would this mean you need at least 20 cm (8 inches) clearance on the front, back, and both sides from the edge of the countertop to avoid grease ending up all over the floor?
My sink will probably be on the opposite side. How is cleaning handled in that case? It probably creates more mess if you have to carry dirty dishes across the floor, right?

@Jaydee & ypg: Thanks
As someone already mentioned, and I also find very nice, is that when cooking you are fully part of what’s going on in the dining area. It’s a matter of personal taste, but I like it. You can never have enough space, by the way—my mother-in-law packed us full of containers when we moved in last week. Space disappears quickly like that. But it’s still manageable for now.
Edit: I just realized we’ve talked about the space and the containers issue before.

Now I’m also curious about Yvonne’s kitchen with the angled island I have shared a photo in another thread before… here’s a new one:
View from the staircase/living area; you can see the dining table on the right, the hallway begins on the left.
The raised table next to the island supports the core group during parties – it’s actually planned for quick meals for two, but we’re still missing the bar stools

I don’t think your kitchen islands are bad at all. But it looks like you have lots of space. I seriously wonder what you can fit in there
Right now I just have one frying pan and one pot, and that’s enough for me In the work area, there are a total of 8 drawers for containers (90cm (35 inches)), cooking equipment (2 x 60cm (24 inches)), spices (90cm (35 inches)) and cutlery.
In the top view, there are 30cm (12 inches) cabinets for vases, dishes, and other miscellaneous items.
Regards, Yvonne

Just a curious question – wasn’t the staircase approved without a railing, or was it specified as such in the building permit / planning permission?
Best regards, Bauexperte
