How is the practical experience with a kitchen island?
Currently, I have a standard kitchen countertop. But I’m considering a kitchen island. I’m just wondering how it is with grease splatters and similar issues. Sometimes the grease splashes quite a bit, and the area around the stove gets covered. I’ve also noticed some on the floor, since my cooktop is only about 5-10 cm (2–4 inches) from the edge.
With a kitchen island, would this mean you need at least 20 cm (8 inches) clearance on the front, back, and both sides from the edge of the countertop to avoid grease ending up all over the floor?
My sink will probably be on the opposite side. How is cleaning handled in that case? It probably creates more mess if you have to carry dirty dishes across the floor, right?

Sealing the floor.
The individual cooking zones on the cooktop are not directly at the edge, but 20cm (8 inches) where you stand might be a bit much. Having some space to the left, right, and behind the cooktop for storage is beneficial; it shouldn’t be too tight.

That’s correct. According to recommendations, it’s actually about 30cm (12 inches) on each side. But you should generally have the option to place something next to it or quickly take a pot off the cooktop. If you’re already considering practical use, then you should also place the sink on the island. This is much easier than having to turn around and take 2-3 steps every time to refill or empty water, etc.
So placing the sink on the island probably won’t be easy. I could still run the electrical cables under the floor, no problem, but it would be difficult with the pipes. That’s not something I had planned. Basically, I only wanted to have the cooktop on the island and leave space to the left or right for free cooking or preparing food. I would probably lay tiles on the floor, but of course, they need to be cleaned as well.

Don’t forget the electrical connection!
There are those pop-up power outlets, but we will have a flat outlet port installed that reveals two sockets when rotated. It takes up hardly any space in the cabinet below.
