Good morning everyone,
We have ordered a kitchen for our new build, but the delivery is not scheduled until late 2023. Until then, we still have many options to adjust. One of these I am now considering changing, but I wanted to gather some experiences here first. It’s about the drawers—specifically the drawer side panels. In the Schüller kitchen we chose, the drawer sides are made of glass. However, I’m concerned that after some time they might no longer look good and cleaning them will always require emptying the drawers. The biggest advantage and a convincing argument was the clear visibility inside the drawers, which sit slightly higher. But I fear that over time, cleaning needs will diminish this benefit.
Has anyone had experience with this and would like to share?
If necessary, we might still upgrade to fully enclosed drawers.

My sense of humor tends to be triggered when I notice topics being discussed that one might have already evaluated for themselves. Besides, these are not particularly costly considerations worth debating.
So my advice: just do it and then look for further optimization possibilities 😉 Your humor doesn’t need to feel triggered; that really wasn’t and isn’t my intention. :-(
I don’t believe I ever expressed that I had already made a decision for myself – that is not the case. No decision has resulted yet from the evaluation. * It’s likely just a misunderstanding? Anyway, that’s not the core issue.
*Edit at this point:
I should have correctly written "potential potential" in my last post instead of just potential.
This is about an additional cost of €1,000 (approx. $1,100) for the enclosed version, which is why I do see a reason to discuss it. I started the thread hoping someone has had similar experiences and can share how they felt afterward about their decision (for or against it). I just want to avoid spending €25,000 (approx. $27,500) on a kitchen and then regret not having possibly added the extra €1,000 (approx. $1,100). Of course, unnecessary spending of €1,000 should be avoided, and that’s how this thread came about. Simply saying “just do it” in this case is as unconsidered as taking a new car directly from the dealership to a detailer next door.
There have already been some helpful suggestions in the posts, for which I am very grateful – and anyone who digs up this thread via search in the future will likely appreciate those too.
Wishing you a sunny Thursday! 😎
I have had these side glass panels for 10 years. Why should I clean them? My dishes are clean when stored in the drawers, the groceries I buy are always in some kind of packaging, and raw meat or fish goes straight into my refrigerator. So, what exactly would I need to clean on the sides? They look the same today, tomorrow, and the day after.
If I wanted a more upscale look, I would choose the more modern Legrabox drawers, especially if I were buying a kitchen with a handle profile.

We had a Häcker kitchen with satin glass inserts on the drawers. I rarely wiped them because it simply wasn’t necessary. For the new house, we’re getting a Leicht kitchen. The drawers have clear glass on the sides. I think this visually enhances the kitchen, and I wouldn’t want to leave that out.
Don’t worry about cleaning. If something gets dirty, just wipe it down with a cloth, and you’re good. The parts aren’t that big anyway.

Allthewayup15 Aug 2022 12:31Thank you all for the insightful feedback. That has convinced us, so we will keep the glass elements and have the kitchen equipped with them.
