Hello,

We are now working on the planning of our kitchen backsplash.

We are choosing a granite slab with an approximately 2cm (0.8 inch) high splash guard.

Above the splash guard, the wall will be finished with a Q2 level skim coat, and we want to install a decorative kitchen backsplash there to protect the wall from stains.

It is important that the backsplash is easy to maintain and can be wiped clean of grease splashes, for example.

Which material would you recommend for this backsplash?

We were considering a self-adhesive film with a design.

We have 40cm (16 inches) high wood, the same as for the fronts. At some point, I might switch to glass, but those 6 meters (20 feet) in tempered safety glass with holes for sockets would cost around 800 euros. I don’t think it will be worth it for me.

We would definitely choose simple patterns like leaves or similar.

Yes, glass over these lengths is definitely expensive.

How do we fix a glass cover? Is the glass glued on?
There are special mounts/clips/brackets for that.
The glass is not glued.

@driver55 .. for transparent glass, certainly like in your case. Opaque glass, if colored, can definitely be fixed with a few silicone dots.

Has anyone had experience with self-adhesive films for kitchen backsplashes? Or is glass the only reasonable option?

You can’t stick the film directly onto the wall. You definitely need another panel as a base first.

No personal experience, but you definitely can’t stick these self-adhesive films directly onto the wall; they won’t hold on plaster.

Otherwise, there are countless viable solutions: painting (with washable paint), tiles, natural stone (granite, marble, but these have to be sealed), glass panels, wall panels made of various materials...
