Hello,

We are now working on the planning of our kitchen backsplash.

We are choosing a granite slab with an approximately 2cm (0.8 inch) high splash guard.

Above the splash guard, the wall will be finished with a Q2 level skim coat, and we want to install a decorative kitchen backsplash there to protect the wall from stains.

It is important that the backsplash is easy to maintain and can be wiped clean of grease splashes, for example.

Which material would you recommend for this backsplash?

We were considering a self-adhesive film with a design.

Then just smear tomato sauce on the wall. 😀

No, seriously, if you don’t want to spend around 500€ on the “complete glazing,” protect the wall with suitable paint and only install glass behind the stove.

There are also aluminum back panels available with various designs.

A small tip: if there are no power outlets nearby, at Ikea you can get a 180cm (70.9 inches) toughened glass panel in black or white for about 20 euros. Place it behind only critical points, as driver55 suggests.

As I read the posts here, I had the following questions.

The glass panel must be slightly offset from the wall, right? And what about dirt accumulating behind the glass, especially near the stove area?

In my mother’s rental apartment, we installed a self-adhesive "film" for cost reasons and because the tiles were not allowed to be removed. It’s basically a pre-cut, slightly thinner PVC material, similar to the large rolls for flooring that you can find at hardware stores.

For this purpose and at around 90 euros, I think it’s acceptable and easy to work with. But if it’s for a property you own, I would want something more durable.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture of the finished result...

Kitchen with sink and faucet, dark stone backsplash, wooden base cabinet, and gray floor tiles.

Okay, I’m slowly moving away from the idea of using foil.

We want to have splash protection all around, and especially for the design to wrap around the sides (for example, falling fruit or something similar).

Now my question:

Which would be better, aluminum or glass?

The design definitely should have a high-gloss finish, be easy to clean, and durable.

Where is the best place to get the backsplashes? Order online?
