Hello everyone,

I am planning to use the IKEA KALLAX shelving system for my new project in France, but I am wondering whether the KALLAX system is fully compatible with the commonly used French dimensions.

Specifically, I am concerned about the measurements of the shelves and compartments, which are designed according to the Swedish measurement system, whereas France often follows different standard sizes, especially for interior fittings and furniture.

Has anyone had experience with whether the KALLAX modules fit smoothly into French room layouts? Or do adjustments need to be made, such as modifying side panels or accepting differences in installation height? What tips are there for using these shelves in France, and are there any common pitfalls to watch out for?

I look forward to helpful feedback and advice!

Hey klaumberto,

wow, that sounds like a great project! 🙂 KALLAX is really a fantastic system because it’s so versatile.

I set up my KALLAX in France and found it amazing how well the pieces fit thanks to the metric measurements. If you get stuck with the installation height, don’t worry! A little flexibility and some tinkering—that’s part of the fun!

Just give it a try, you can really make a lot out of it. And if you run into any trouble, we’ll check in here, okay? Don’t get discouraged! :-)
