ᐅ Kallax Swollen After Moving In – What Is IKEA’s Return Policy Period?

Hello everyone,
I recently bought and assembled a Kallax cabinet from IKEA. Unfortunately, after moving in and just a few days of use, I noticed that the side panels have swollen noticeably. The surface is bulging outward at the edges, which suggests moisture damage—even though the cabinet is placed in a well-heated and dry room. My question is: What is the typical warranty or claim period at IKEA for issues like this that might be caused by material defects or manufacturing faults? Has anyone had experience with whether swollen material like this is still covered under warranty, even if the damage only becomes visible several weeks after purchase? I would prefer not to exceed any valid claim periods, but keeping the cabinet in this condition is not an option. Thanks for your help!

Additional information:

IKEA’s 5-year warranty is subject to certain conditions, including proper use and maintenance. Damage clearly caused by material defects is generally covered under the warranty, provided there are no external factors such as water damage or mishandling.

Since the Kallax unit is made of particleboard, swelling is a common defect often caused by trapped moisture during manufacturing or transport. If you state that all environmental conditions were controlled and the cabinet was intact upon delivery, this strongly suggests a manufacturing or storage defect.

I recommend:

1. Reporting the defect to IKEA in writing with all relevant details (customer service via email or customer portal).
2. Having your proof of purchase ready.
3. If possible, submitting the claim at your local IKEA store, where staff can inspect the product directly or provide precise information about the process.

...Was the cabinet, for example, placed against an exterior wall with possible condensation?

Since this apparently is not the case, your chances of IKEA recognizing the damage are good. Good luck!
