Hello everyone, for the past few weeks I have been having an issue with the feet supplied with my IKEA Kallax shelving unit breaking repeatedly after a relatively short period of use. There is no obvious excessive load or incorrect assembly during setup and use, yet the feet keep cracking or breaking. Has anyone else experienced similar problems or maybe even found a solution? It would also be helpful to know whether replacing the feet with different ones is advisable or even possible without compromising stability. Thanks in advance for your experiences and tips!

Replacing with screws that provide a better thread base is technically possible.

So, can you simply buy new screws and feet to solve the problem? Unfortunately, IKEA does not offer replacement feet.

That’s correct, that was also my issue. Not being able to get the feet as individual spare parts complicates things. Does anyone here have the exact measurements for alternative feet? I want to avoid the shelf becoming unstable. The connection is already special due to the plastic threads, and I want to avoid any problems there.

Alternative feet should have the same thread size. Otherwise, adjustments are necessary. Hardwood feet or metal feet with compatible screw threads are better than the original ones.

Honestly, I wonder if IKEA does that on purpose

Haha, well, I don’t think it’s intentional – more like mass production combined with cost targets. Back then, I just bought rubber feet with a wood finish, placed the shelf on them, and haven’t had any issues for months. It even looks better, and the feet protect the floor. Recommendation: Just look for universal furniture feet. They don’t cost much and last forever ;-)
