ᐅ KALLAX always tilted on felt pads – does everything keep slipping?

Hello everyone,

I have a KALLAX shelving unit from IKEA and I’m quite unhappy with its stability on the felt pads. Despite careful installation, the unit always stands slightly crooked, which is frustrating—especially since the pads are supposed to help prevent shifting. Unfortunately, the shelves and the inserted boxes even slide around sometimes, which affects both the overall appearance and usability.

Has anyone had similar experiences or perhaps a tip on how to keep the KALLAX shelving unit permanently level and non-slip on felt pads?

Looking forward to your replies!

Does anyone already have the shelf on adjustable feet? They are supposed to provide much better stability and make it easier to compensate for uneven floors. Plus: more airflow underneath the furniture. If the KALLAX is going to get a small update, this would be a smart solution, wouldn’t it? 😄

Nubby feet are more stable. Felt gliders mainly serve to protect against scratches. For a secure footing, use floor nubs or rubber.

So, a brief update:

I used different washers for height adjustment and tested non-slip plastic pads. Result: The shelf now stands noticeably more stable and hardly slips anymore.

What I learned: It helps to work with several small adjustments – just using felt pads does not make the shelf more stable, as they mainly protect the floor.

Thanks for the exchange, I can really recommend your tips! 🙂

Exactly! Sometimes less is more, but when it comes to furniture, a combination of practical ideas really pays off. And now your KALLAX could almost be mistaken for a premium version 😉
