Hello everyone,

I have a KALLAX shelving unit from IKEA and I’m quite unhappy with its stability on the felt pads. Despite careful installation, the unit always stands slightly crooked, which is frustrating—especially since the pads are supposed to help prevent shifting. Unfortunately, the shelves and the inserted boxes even slide around sometimes, which affects both the overall appearance and usability.

Has anyone had similar experiences or perhaps a tip on how to keep the KALLAX shelving unit permanently level and non-slip on felt pads?

Looking forward to your replies!

Oh yes, I know that problem all too well! 🙌 My KALLAX also always leaned on the felt pads, and everything became slippery. What helped me was sticking some small non-slip pads under a few of the glides. It works great and nothing slips anymore. Just give it a try; it’s an affordable and quick solution! 🙂

Felt pads are usually too smooth. It is better to use rubber pads or self-adhesive anti-slip mats.

The crooked KALLAX was also a bit of a challenge for me. 😅 I think the felt pads are mainly meant to protect the floor rather than serve as sturdy feet! Maybe we should give the shelving unit a more stable base – sort of a small upgrade. Wouldn’t it be funny if IKEA started offering non-slip feet as a standard feature? 😉

Thanks for your answers so far!

@Declan55: The idea of non-slip pads sounds promising. Which type exactly are you using?

@RIDAN: So rubber pads are better than felt? That makes sense, although I’m worried it might not look as good.

@PERON: True, I hadn’t considered that aspect before. Felt is great for the floor but not so much for long-term stability.

Are you aware of the absurd idea of just placing the KALLAX directly on the floor? No felt pads, no rubber? Of course, only if the floor is durable. Then the shelf wouldn’t slide at all... Maybe all these gliders are just a placebo for a guilty conscience because IKEA doesn’t offer perfect feet. 😉
