Hello everyone,

I am currently working on an Ikea Metod kitchen project, and I have a fundamental question that might also be relevant for others: Is there an optimal order or structure when assembling Ikea Metod?

Specifically, I am wondering if it makes sense to assemble the individual cabinets and modules in a certain sequence, for example, first the base cabinets, then the wall cabinets, or whether it is better to work section by section. I am also considering questions like: Should the carcasses be assembled first, followed by the internal drawers and doors, or the other way around?

Does anyone have experience showing that a particular approach improves both time efficiency and the quality of the assembly?

I would appreciate concrete tips on how to proceed with a project like this to minimize issues with final fitting and alignment. Thanks in advance!

Basically, I would structure the sequence as follows:

- First, install the base cabinets and align them precisely, as they serve as the foundation.
- In the second step, mount the wall cabinets or upper cabinets, since they need a stable base and reference to the base cabinets.
- Then, install the doors, drawer fronts, and interior components to ensure perfect adjustment when assembling the carcasses.

It is important to set the cabinets firmly and align them exactly before installing further components. This greatly reduces later problems with closing and aligning the doors.

This is especially true for Ikea Metod, where the tolerances of individual parts are usually quite small, but errors can quickly add up along the entire kitchen run. I also recommend closely following each assembly instruction because the order can vary slightly depending on the cabinet type.

Additionally, it is worthwhile to assemble the components temporarily in their intended location before permanently mounting the back panels and gluing or screwing them in place.

Thank you for the clear structure; this will surely help many! I personally had a lot of trouble when I installed doors right away and then realized the cabinets weren’t perfectly aligned. That caused frustration and delays.

For me, the most important thing was to get the base completely stable and properly aligned before doing anything else. Still, I felt that having a “checklist” would be useful – what is the most logical step after completing the first major section (base cabinets).

What I’m still unsure about is how exactly to proceed with the inner drawers and components. Is it better to install everything at once, or step by step? Does anyone have similar experiences or tips? Fitting the interior elements was especially overwhelming for me at times.

An optimal assembly sequence for Ikea Metod largely depends on the specific kitchen layout and the components used, so I would like to provide a more detailed response.

- First, I recommend checking the countertop and the subfloor for dimensions and levelness, as this is often the key reason why cabinet boxes do not stand perfectly.
- Start by assembling the base cabinets, as they bear the weight and support the entire structure. Make sure to level the floor supports carefully and use shims if necessary.
- The next logical step is mounting the wall cabinets. It is helpful to accurately align these using a spirit level and appropriate brackets before tightening the screws.
- At this stage, basic components such as cabinet boxes should be screwed together correctly, but the back panels should initially be loosely fixed—this makes small adjustments easier during alignment.
- Only once all major components are in place does it make sense to install doors, drawer slides, and inner drawers. This phase requires high precision because any misalignments later may require time-consuming adjustments.

Practical tip: Use the included adjustment options for drawers and internal elements after the entire assembly to ensure smooth, noise-free closing.

A frequently overlooked question I like to ask: What are your spatial conditions? Are the floor and walls completely even? What tools do you have available?

These details can significantly influence how precisely and smoothly the assembly process goes.
