Hello,
We are considering planning for air conditioning preparation in our new build.
In which rooms does it make sense to install air conditioning?
We have a KfW 55 semi-detached house.
What needs to be done for air conditioning preparation?

We have 3 split units over 150m² (1,615 sq ft). One is in the living/dining/kitchen area (open plan). Does that mean there are 3 outdoor units? I can’t imagine where I would place them upstairs. Although I forgot that I’m getting a carport under the bedroom, where I could definitely install something within 3m (10 feet) of the property boundary in the building zone.
I’ve read so much about heat pumps, but I still don’t really have any solid understanding.
Our ventilation system is on the roof; connecting to it sounds almost too good to be true, but at least we have a condensate drain.

Are these then 3 outdoor units? No, just one outdoor unit. Above the door could be a good location, ideally as central as possible relative to the main living areas of your house.
It was similar in 2019/2020. The air conditioning supposedly required a recalculation for the KfW funding. I’m not sure if that was just said or if it was actually the case. We decided to skip it. I’m also staying away from retrofitting for now, as I don’t want to risk losing the funding because of it.
Last summer, we bought a portable split air conditioning unit (Remko, about 1200€), which I hang out of our bedroom window when needed. I built a bracket for the blinds’ rails and place the outdoor unit on the bracket outside. Lower the blinds, tilt the window slightly open, put a blanket around it, and it’s done. It blows into the hallway, and the cool air then flows down the stairs, cooling the whole house to comfortable temperatures.
Not premium, but it is more than enough for the hot days.

So are there then 3 outdoor units? I can't quite imagine where I would hang them on the upper floor. Although I forgot that I am getting a carport underneath the bedroom, where I could definitely install something within 3m (10 feet) of the property boundary inside the building area. No, just one outdoor unit on the carport in our case.
The indoor units can be installed practically anywhere, as long as the pipes can be routed there. We have them above doors on the ground floor, and on the upper floor in the hallway, fairly centered below the ceiling.

The question is, what do you do with this thing for the remaining 300 days of the year if you don’t have a basement. My wife heats with it because she really likes the warm air 😉Similar topics
