Hello everyone, I have a specific question and hope to get your opinion: From your experience, is it really worth getting a professional cleaning for stained KALLAX doors from IKEA?
I have noticed that some of my white KALLAX doors have unpleasant stains and discolorations that cannot be removed with regular cleaning. I’m wondering if a professional cleaning—meaning by specialized providers using specific cleaning methods—can significantly restore the furniture to a better condition, or if the effect is rather limited and it might be better to consider replacing the doors instead.
Do you have any experience or recommendations? What actual benefits does professional cleaning offer for such furniture/wood doors, and do you perhaps have any cost-benefit tips? Thanks in advance for your input!

I find this question very interesting because it highlights how we often think in terms of "professional cleaning versus buying new."
In my view, many of these stains are really a matter of personal taste and attitude. One could argue that some signs of wear even add character.
Of course, professional cleaning is often not a miracle solution but at best a way to polish up what’s already there – there’s a lot of marketing behind it.
My point is: Why not first try gentle home remedies like vinegar water or soft cleaning sponges? If that doesn’t help, replacement is probably better.
The trend to have everything professionally cleaned might also reflect our overconsumption society. Constant maintenance instead of replacement – but sometimes replacing is the better, more sustainable option.

I’m genuinely interested to know if professional cleaning involves specific products or techniques that are effective without damaging the doors. I also don’t want to end up with dull or worn surfaces afterward.
And of course, sustainable thinking is important to me, which is why I’m also asking whether restoring the furniture is a long-lasting solution or more of a “short-term fix.”

But of course, if the doors mean a lot to you, professional cleaning is a perfectly valid option.
And sometimes it’s the little things that make the overall impression. 😉
One last important tip: Whether you are a professional or a DIY enthusiast, always test first in an inconspicuous area!
If you decide to hire a contractor, check if they have experience with KALLAX or similar materials and whether they offer a guarantee for the integrity of the product.
This way, you can minimize the risk and hopefully enjoy your furniture even more.
