Hello everyone,

I recently installed an Ikea Metod kitchen with soft-close systems for the cabinets and drawers. Now I am facing the challenge of adjusting the damping and closing mechanism correctly so that the doors and drawers close smoothly and reliably without slamming or being too stiff.

Specifically, I have the following questions:
- How can I adjust the soft-close systems so that the drawers close slowly and quietly in the final phase?
- Are there different adjustment options for the Metod cabinets depending on the size of the door or drawer that I need to consider?
- How can I determine the optimal level of damping so that the mechanism neither slows down too much nor too little?

I would appreciate any advice on the intended adjustment mechanisms and tips for fine-tuning, so I can use the system reliably and for a long time.

Best regards,

The soft-close damping settings for Ikea Metod cabinets and drawers are generally quite simple, but there are a few details to keep in mind.

Most Ikea soft-close systems feature adjustable damping through small screws or switches located directly on the hinges or drawer slides. Here you can regulate the damping during the final phase of the closing process.

- Smaller doors and drawers usually require less damping to avoid unnecessary slowing.
- Larger fronts or heavier drawers need more damping to prevent them from slamming shut.
- For Metod, damping is typically adjusted via a lever on the hinges for doors and either screws or levers on the slides for drawers.

Tip:
First test the drawers and doors without any damping, then adjust gradually until the noise and speed feel right. It helps to open and close the door or drawer several times to check the effect.

This way, you ensure nothing squeaks and the system works smoothly. If you have more specific information about your model, I’m happy to provide more detailed help.

I agree with this and would like to add: With Metod soft-close systems, it is important to adjust the levers on the hinges or on the dampers in small increments only.

Here is a brief procedure:
- Open the door or drawer fully.
- Use the built-in adjustment screws or levers to slightly increase or decrease the damping.
- Then close carefully to check the effect.

Note that too much damping on heavy fronts can cause problems with complete closing. The door or drawer may get “stuck” or fail to latch fully.

If you are setting up from scratch, it is advisable to start with the factory settings and adjust little by little.

Also, for optimal adjustment, it is helpful to occasionally consult the supplied Ikea installation manual. It often shows and explains the adjustment points.

Good luck!

That’s the great thing about the Ikea Metod soft-close systems: a well-adjusted damper actually makes your drawers close almost magically – without any slamming or the need to push them shut.

My tip:
- Move the adjustment levers in small increments, as taotis53 already suggested, and test the effect several times.
- If a drawer closes too quickly, increase the damping, but not too much, or else it might wobble.
- Be careful with large cabinets or fronts: the damping needs to be stronger, otherwise it will hit hard.

I can only agree – try that out and don’t forget to hang the drawer properly, that’s important too. Otherwise, even the best dampers won’t help if something is misaligned.

Good luck, and once everything is set up correctly, opening and closing will be much more enjoyable!
