Hello everyone, I’m planning a larger storage project using Ikea Metod cabinets and want to design it as space-efficiently as possible. My question is: How do you assemble Ikea Metod cabinets to maximize storage capacity without leaving unnecessary gaps or unused space? I’m not only interested in the assembly itself but especially in how to plan and organize the interior layout to make the most of the available volume. I have some experience with Ikea furniture, but I find the Metod series a bit more complex due to the variety of sizes and internal components. I’d appreciate it if you could share your tips, tricks, and potential pitfalls so I can have a solid foundation before I get started.

Inner drawers and pull-outs in tall cabinets are usually worthwhile. Standard shelves often waste space because the height is not used optimally.

Tip: Choose a combination of lower and higher drawers to accommodate items of all sizes. This creates order and improves visibility.

For storage, deep base cabinets are good, and tall cabinets are suitable for bulky items. Integrating pull-outs at the front allows full depth access. This works well with Metod.

Could you possibly explain in more detail which internal drawers you mean?

Often, people stick with the standard adjustable shelves, even though Metod offers a wide range, such as the fully extendable internal drawers with soft-close. They are truly a game-changer because you can access the entire storage space from the front. This even allows you to make perfect use of the usually underutilized rear areas of the cabinet carcasses.

Exactly! Something that Ikea doesn’t explicitly recommend but many professionals do: using so-called ‘section add-ons’ or connecting modules with different internal depths by intentionally introducing variety during the planning phase.

This leads to better use of storage space but requires more careful planning.

For more storage space: use corners with special corner cabinets. These usually offer more depth. Drawers in the base cabinet are better than open shelves. Design tall cabinets with continuous internal pull-outs.
