Hello everyone, I recently installed a kitchen using the Ikea Metod system, but I have the issue that the doors do not close smoothly and quietly. Especially with the larger doors, there is often a loud slam, which is not only annoying but can also put stress on the hinges and doors over time. Now I am wondering what options are available to make the doors close gently and quietly. Are there any special damping systems from Ikea that I can retrofit, or alternative solutions that work well with Metod? I would really appreciate any experience or tips, as I am looking for a durable and practical solution. Thank you in advance!

The soft-close retrofit kits for Ikea Metod clip-on hinges are quite reliable and can often be installed without complex tools.I can fully agree with that. Important: when installing the soft-close modules, make sure the hinges are clean. Dirt or damage on the hinge can significantly affect the damping function. It’s also worth precisely aligning the doors after installation using a spirit level or adjustable screws to avoid uneven stress.
Sometimes users think that a softer setting on the hinge alone is enough – but mechanical dampers are definitely preferable here to ensure a reliable and consistent closing function.
At first, I also struggled with loud slamming, which was quite annoying, especially in the evenings or with sleeping children, as the noise can be really disturbing. That’s why I later installed soft-close hinges, which made daily life much more relaxed.
I also want to encourage anyone who is worried about the installation: mounting is usually straightforward, and if something doesn’t fit, you can find many helpful tips here in the forum. In my view, the investment is worthwhile in the long run because the material is protected over time and the kitchen feels more high-quality.
If anyone is interested in a step-by-step guide, I’m happy to share it.

A practical guide, especially on how to accurately retrofit soft-close modules on clip-on hinges, would be very helpful. Tips on what to check beforehand and which tools are really necessary would also be much appreciated. Thanks in advance to everyone in this thread for the support!
