Hello,
I’m starting my first topic here:
As you can see from the title, it’s about finding a suitable wardrobe. Since we have chosen the Malm bed frame in the color black-brown, we are now looking for a matching wardrobe.
I do find the Pax wardrobes very appealing, but when I set them up the way I like, it gets quite expensive, especially if you add doors.
So, I wanted to ask you what ideas you might have?!
Regarding the room, I can add that our bedroom isn’t very large. A big wardrobe would fit, as would a medium-sized chest of drawers, but I’m not sure if choosing a large wardrobe in this dark color tone might make the room feel too oppressive.
That also raises the question of what color the wardrobe should be so that it matches the bed but doesn’t make the room look smaller.
Thanks in advance for your replies.
Best regards,
Laeril

For our PAX with Lyngdal sliding doors and custom features (2.50 x 2.36 m (8.2 x 7.7 ft)) we paid around 700€ and I found the price really reasonable. Actually, it’s unbeatable in comparison. IKEA also offers a free 10-year warranty.
So as a tip, if a dark wardrobe feels too heavy for you, the glass/aluminum sliding doors would probably match any other color — if you like them.

Hello
We just managed to put together our bedroom furniture in medium brown (Hopen/Malm) since the medium brown color was discontinued back then.
The Hopen wardrobes have frosted glass doors, so they don’t feel too heavy. A light wall color also helps (we have a yellow wall with a textured finish) and a yellow carpet (never a light carpet again) 🙄 — that was a mistake at the time. Since our current bedroom was originally an office/guest room, then briefly a kids’ room, we eventually used it as a bedroom because it gave our little one enough space.
We might add a white wardrobe with a dark frame. I think that should be possible.
Our corner wardrobe from Hopen was over €300 new, but we got it used for €50 from the newspaper ads. I wouldn’t want to miss the storage space from the three wardrobes — two standard ones (one single-door and one double-door) plus the corner wardrobe. Along with two dressers from Malm, that was enough storage for clothes and laundry.
The bed and nightstands are also from Malm.
So, good luck choosing your wardrobe!

newswedishdesign11 Apr 2012 14:17A friend of ours replaced the doors, which were quite expensive compared to the actual cabinet or carcass, with a curtain rod and colorful curtains. If the curtains are designed in contrasting colors, the black no longer feels so overwhelming, and you can easily save a few hundred euros. Plus, her cabinet looks quite stylish this way.

newswedishdesign1 May 2012 16:23We have the same bed and a white wardrobe. In my opinion, you can combine almost anything with them. It also depends a bit on your wall color.
