Hello IKEA fans,

Currently, there is the IKEA Expedit shelf unit with 8 compartments. Can I also place this in the bathroom, or could there be problems due to the humidity?

Best regards, Sascha

I wouldn’t normally do this. But:
Do you have a window in the bathroom and no wet tiles after showering?
Did you buy the Expedit from the bargain section for 10 euros?
Then maybe.....

.. but I think the coating will start to peel off sooner or later.

I also experienced this problem once when I mounted a lacquered wall shelf in the bathroom, but it warped fairly quickly!

For about 15 months now, we have had the 8-cube Expedit positioned next to the bathtub in the bathroom with some space in between. The bathroom is quite small, has natural daylight, and is used only for bathing (the shower is in a different bathroom). The shelf normally stands on feet about 2cm (0.8 inches) high.

So far, nothing has swollen or warped – you just shouldn’t splash water directly onto it... and if you want, you can simply apply clear silicone sealant to all edges.

The flower water once spilled over the shelf, and now it looks really bad. So it doesn’t react well with water. It’s better to avoid that.
