I purchased the Broder shelf with the L-foot option from Ikea, with the following specifications: a 41 cm (16 inches) foot length and metal shelves measuring 36.5 cm x 79 cm (14 inches x 31 inches).

The feet came with two crossbars meant for sliding together, which are inserted between the support bars at the top and bottom and can slide into each other to adjust the shelf width precisely.

Unfortunately, even at the narrowest setting, the shelf is still too wide to securely hold my shelves on both sides.

What am I doing wrong?

The Broder buying guides don’t mention anywhere that the 79 cm (31 inches) shelves are too narrow for the L-foot version... am I mistaken?

Thank you!

OK, problem solved myself:
I had swapped the brackets, so left was on right and vice versa, which made them face outward instead of inward to hold the board.

PS: The shelf is very difficult to transport once assembled, so it’s best to set it up directly at the final location! 🙂
