Hello everyone,
I have an issue with my Ikea Besta cabinet, specifically with the doors: every time I close them, there’s this typical loud “door snap” noise that can be quite annoying, especially in quiet moments. The doors are properly aligned and neither too tight nor too loose. I suspect the noise is caused by the mechanical design or the hinges/handles.
Has anyone had experience or advice on how to effectively prevent these door snap noises? I’m interested in both simple DIY solutions and more technical approaches if they tend to work better. It’s important to me that the doors still close securely without constantly worrying that they might accidentally open.
Looking forward to your suggestions!

The "door catch" issue with the Ikea BESTA is a well-known phenomenon, usually caused by the magnetic catches used or the integrated clips. To reduce the noise, there are several effective methods:
- Replacing the existing magnetic catches with softer models or ones that include damping.
- Attaching self-adhesive rubber bumpers or felt pads to the contact points of the doors. These provide a gentler impact.
- Checking the hinge adjustment, especially around the stop area, to avoid unnecessary pressure that can increase noise.
It is important that the hinges are properly adjusted, as misaligned doors can cause rattling sounds. Usually, a combination of damping measures and optimal adjustment delivers the best results.

Hey matias!
I had the same issue with my BESTA and tried a lot of different things. My tip: the rubber bumpers are worth their weight in gold! 😄 They’re super easy to install and cost almost nothing. After sticking them on, the banging was almost completely gone, and the doors now close quietly yet securely.
If you want, you can also check if the magnetic catches are too tight. Sometimes loosening them a bit or getting softer replacements helps. It’s worth sticking with it because that door slamming can be really annoying! Good luck, you’ve got this! 💪

I suspect that the noise is caused by the mechanical construction or the hinges/handles.That is a reasonable assumption. To effectively eliminate the door catch noise on an Ikea BESTA unit, I recommend a systematic approach:
- First, carefully identify which components are causing the noise. A helpful method is to close the doors one at a time while listening closely to determine whether the sound comes from the magnetic catches, the hinges, or the door stops.
- If the magnetic catch is the source, replacing it with a damped version (so-called soft-close magnetic catches) can provide a long-term solution. There are also special rubber-based seals that can be applied at the contact points.
- If the hinges are responsible, adjusting the doors can be essential. Improper alignment can cause the door to not close evenly, resulting in unwanted noises. In particular, the horizontal and vertical angles of the doors should be checked and precisely adjusted.
- Another option is to replace the hinges with dampers that have an integrated soft-close function, if the budget and construction allow.
- A simple and cost-effective tip is to use thin felt strips attached to the inside of the door or the cabinet frame. These reduce the kinetic energy when closing and minimize noise.
Could you please specify which type of door catch is installed (magnetic or clip), and whether you have already made any adjustments to the hinges? This information would greatly help in finding a solution.
