Hello everyone, I recently installed a kitchen with Ikea Metod countertops and would like to know how to clean them properly without leaving scratches or stains.
I understand that some cleaning products can damage the surface, especially on heavily used countertops. My main question is: Which cleaning agents and methods are specifically suitable for Ikea Metod countertops to keep them clean and well-maintained without damaging the surface?
Additionally, Iâm interested in whether there are any special tips for removing stubborn stains such as grease or red wine without harming the countertop surface.
Thanks in advance for your advice!

Well, I think a clean kitchen just makes everything more enjoyable! đ
For the Ikea Metod countertops, I have the habit of quickly wiping them down with a damp cloth and a little dish soap after cooking. It doesnât take much effort and helps prevent stains.
And if something nasty spills, I usually use a mixture of water and a bit of baking powder â itâs gentle on the surface and removes stains effectively.
It gives everything a really fresh feel, without any hassle.

- It is important not to use sharp objects or abrasive scrub pads.
- For stain removal, a damp microfiber cloth with a mild soap solution is suitable.
- In general, quick action with liquids is crucial because the material does not tolerate deep penetration.
From my experience, chemical cleaners containing acetone or aggressive solvents should be avoided.

For cleaning Ikea Metod countertops, Ikea itself recommends mild soap solutions or specific dishwashing detergent solutions. Thanks for the quick reply. When using vinegar, is it safe to add just a splash of vinegar to the cleaning water, or does it only sound good but would actually be risky?

For tougher stains like dried red wine or oil, I recommend soaking the stain while moist and then gently polishing it with a cloth.Does soaking for a longer time affect the surface in any way?
Iâm also unsure about how best to care for the edges of the countertops, as some areas seem a bit more delicate.

Is it safe to add a splash of vinegar to the cleaning water, or does that just sound good but could be risky?Vinegar is an acidic cleaner and can cause long-term damage to coated panels. I recommend using vinegar only in small amounts and preferably spot-treating, for example on stains that are treated briefly and then rinsed off immediately. Vinegar is not suitable for daily cleaning.

Does soaking for a longer time not affect the surface?Prolonged soaking is not recommended. A maximum of a few minutes, followed by immediate wiping and drying, is necessary to avoid softening the material.
Regarding the edges: these are usually more sensitive, so it is especially important not to use abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals. A damp cleaning with mild dish soap and a soft cloth is usually sufficient. Avoid prolonged moisture on the edges.

Does keeping the softener on the surface for a long time cause any damage?Prolonged exposure can actually damage the coating. I recommend keeping stains damp for only a few minutes at most, then gently wiping them off with a soft cloth.
Regarding the edges: these are often particularly vulnerable to moisture and wear. Avoid letting cleaning agents get into the joints, and make sure to dry the surface thoroughly after cleaning to prevent swelling or peeling.
For daily maintenance, I always use just mild dish soap in warm water and soft cloths â this is usually completely sufficient.
