Hello everyone,

I am considering purchasing the IKEA Brimnes wardrobe but have concerns about the stability of the piece after multiple assemblies and disassemblies. My specific question is: How stable and durable does the IKEA BRIMNES wardrobe remain with repeated assembling and disassembling? In particular, I am interested in whether such processes lead to structural weaknesses or increased wear on the joints (for example, due to the typical screw and dowel combination) and how the stability of the wardrobe can be assessed over longer periods.

It would be helpful to hear experiences with the furniture in exactly these situations or any reliable assessments. Thanks in advance!

The stability of the IKEA BRIMNES wardrobe after multiple assembly and disassembly cycles primarily depends on the care taken during assembly and how often the wardrobe is fully dismantled.

- The fasteners used are typical metal screws, dowels, and wooden dowels, which can show wear after repeated removal.
- In particular, the particleboard panels that hold these dowels tend to lose strength over time due to repeated screwing and unscrewing.
- After about 3-4 complete assembly and disassembly cycles, slight movement at the connection points can be expected.

For long-term stability, it is recommended to use wood glue at critical points and to handle the screws carefully to avoid unnecessary damage to the material.

I consider this a general assumption that can vary greatly. The storage method during disassembly and how carefully the screws are handled are crucial. Many users underestimate the impact of overtightening or careless dismantling, which unnecessarily stresses the material.

I would also question whether the BRIMNES model is typically designed for frequent moving or repeated assembly and disassembly – to my knowledge, based on the material and design, it is rather not. This suggests medium-term use rather than near-permanent disassembly.

I have reconstructed the cabinet twice. No issues with stability. Important: tighten all screws properly and securely. Any loose connections will quickly cause instability.

I can add that, based on my research, the BRIMNES furniture series typically uses particleboard in the budget price range. These wood-based materials are not as durable against repeated disassembly as solid wood furniture.

- So, if the wardrobe is taken apart frequently, I recommend marking or numbering the screws to avoid mistakes during reassembly.
- Additionally, when putting it back together, it can help to replace any damaged dowels or reinforce the screw holes with some wood filler.

I personally use some BRIMNES pieces and would recommend them for moving, but not for frequent disassembly multiple times a year.

This matches my experience after three assembly and disassembly cycles. The structure is sturdy enough for regular use, provided the screws are handled carefully.

A tip: Inspect all connections and tighten screws if necessary after each assembly. This significantly improves long-term stability.
