Hello everyone, I have an important question that’s been on my mind: How stable are Ikea Pax wardrobes when placed on an uneven or slightly unstable floor? I’m planning to install a Pax wardrobe at home, but the floor isn’t perfectly level and consists of old wooden floorboards that have some slight springiness in certain areas. I’m wondering if this could affect the wardrobe’s stability or safety, especially when it’s fully loaded. Are there any particular risks or recommended precautions to prevent accidents? Thanks for your advice!

As a general rule, every Ikea Pax wardrobe should always be secured to the wall to prevent tipping hazards. For unstable flooring, it is advisable to use small washers or special adjustable feet screws to compensate for unevenness.

The Ikea Pax wardrobe is modular and requires a stable, level horizontal surface for all its feet. An uneven or springy surface, such as old wooden floorboards, cannot distribute the weight evenly, which may lead to tipping or deformation risks.

Recommended measures are:
- Use of leveling plates or adjustable feet to compensate
- Securing the wardrobe to the wall as described in the assembly instructions
- If possible, improve the support surface with a firmer base (e.g., OSB board)

I wonder if wall mounting alone is sufficient when the base is really unstable. Couldn’t this still pose an increased risk, especially under heavy load? How strong are the feet and the material of the wardrobe if the base surface wobbles? I would be interested to know if anyone has experience with Ikea Pax under such floor conditions.

The wall mounting is crucial to prevent the cabinet from tipping over, that is correct. The base feet primarily support the weight. If the floor is too soft or uneven, the risk of damage to the feet or shifting increases, so it is important to take the condition seriously and, if necessary, use a suitable underlay.

A system solution is often the most efficient option here. Ikea Pax cabinets are designed for various subfloors, but if the floor is unstable, I recommend a combination of a stabilizing base layer (e.g., plywood board) and the mandatory wall fixing.

This approach prevents:
- The risk of tipping due to an unstable base
- Damage to the cabinet feet from point loads
- Long-term deformation of the structure

Depending on the floor condition, a professional assessment may also be advisable to prevent damage or injuries caused by tipping.
