Hello everyone,
I am planning to buy the IKEA Brimnes bed and am currently researching its load capacity in detail. Specifically, I am interested in how much weight the Brimnes bed can support, both regarding body weight and additional loads such as the mattress and accessories. Unfortunately, IKEA does not provide exact information about the maximum load capacity of the bed frame in the product description.
Does anyone have reliable information or personal experience with the durability and load-bearing capacity of the Brimnes bed? Are there official manufacturer specifications that can be requested from IKEA? It is important for me to use the bed safely under higher loads without compromising stability or lifespan.
I look forward to well-informed responses that will help me make a good purchase decision.

This figure refers to the total load including mattress and occupants.
The bed frame is mainly made of particleboard and MDF, which does not provide extremely high load-bearing capacity, but is sufficiently stable for normal use. If you expect above-average weight, it is advisable to also consider sturdy slatted bed bases or to request technical data sheets directly from IKEA.
Unfortunately, such official information is often not readily available in stores but can be confirmed by IKEA customer service.

- What tests might have been carried out?
- Under what conditions?
Just because IKEA lists a figure on their website or a furniture store provides a number upon request, it does not necessarily guarantee long-term safety.
Based on experience, the material and construction of sofas and beds can vary significantly, including factors such as gluing methods, screw systems, and load distribution.
Therefore, it would be wise to negotiate more precise information or possibly insist on independent test results before relying on such figures.

I will contact IKEA directly to request specific datasheets or certificates for the Brimnes bed in order to obtain reliable information.

My impression: it easily supports around 230 kg (507 lbs) total weight. The practical information is very helpful. Could you also say whether the bed is frequently loaded or only occasionally? And how long have you been using it? That would help to complete the assessment.
Thanks in advance to everyone contributing information!
