Hello everyone, I am looking for good alternatives to the Ikea Brimnes series for furnishing small rooms.
I am quite familiar with the Brimnes range, mainly because of its space-saving features and clean design. However, I find that the furniture sometimes appears too bulky and doesn’t always provide enough storage, especially when the room is really small.
I am particularly interested in solutions that are multifunctional, such as beds with drawers, shelves that are not too deep, or cabinets that open in alternative ways to make the best use of the space. Important aspects would also include solid craftsmanship and a modern style.
Does anyone have good furniture series or individual pieces in mind that are similarly flexible and space-saving but perhaps more modern or of higher quality than Brimnes? Tips on special manufacturers or models to watch out for are also welcome.

For small rooms, furniture with sliding doors instead of hinged doors is often practical because it takes up less space. Thanks for the tip, that makes sense to me. I’m just wondering whether sliding doors in affordable standard ranges are really smooth and durable, or if you have to make compromises.
Does anyone have experience with Ikea or other manufacturers offering sliding door furniture for small rooms and can share how well they hold up in everyday use?

Ikea's sliding door systems are usually okay but not designed for continuous heavy use. For long-term use, you should consider higher-quality brands.
I can easily understand how frustrating it can be to look for a stylish and functional solution, especially in tight living spaces.
I chose modular furniture from Montana for my home. Although it’s not cheap, it is very flexible to customize, very durable, and offers a lot of storage in a small area. At the same time, the space doesn’t feel cramped.
It is also important not to focus solely on furniture but to use open areas wisely and avoid cluttering the space completely.

- Bed with a pull-out guest bed or built-in drawers (e.g., alternatives to models like Ikea's "Hemnes" or "Brimnes")
- Wall-mounted fold-down bed (Murphy bed), ideal for very limited space
- Shelves with adjustable depth, maximum 25-30 cm (10-12 inches), to avoid blocking walkways
- Cabinets with folding doors or sliding doors for restricted space conditions
In general, light colors and slim, clean-lined designs are preferable to make the room feel more spacious.
If the budget allows, a semi-custom solution from a carpenter often pays off in smaller apartments.
