Hello everyone, I have a general concern that has been bothering me for some time. I own several IKEA Brimnes furniture pieces, specifically cabinets and dressers, which I now want to make childproof since I have small children at home. My specific question is: How can I childproof IKEA Brimnes furniture without significantly affecting the appearance or functionality? I am especially looking for proven methods or special locking systems that are easy to install, ideally without drilling or major modifications, as the furniture might need to be restored to its original condition at some point. Additionally, I am interested in recommendations for products that are particularly durable and how to effectively reduce potential safety risks. Thank you in advance for your tips and experiences!

You can use simple magnetic child safety locks that stick to the inside of the doors. Very practical, as they are invisible and require no drilling. This works well with Brimnes.

I understand your concern well, especially when there are small children in the house. For the Brimnes furniture, I found that flexible clamp fasteners are a good solution. They don’t require drilling and hold securely. At first, I was unsure if they would hold, but after a few weeks, it feels safe. It is important to also secure the cabinets to the wall to prevent them from tipping over.

That sounds very interesting. Do you have a preferred brand or a particular supplier? Have you installed any on the Brimnes yourself, and can you comment on their durability and child safety? I am especially interested in whether children figure out how they work fairly quickly or if the lock remains reliably secure over time.

I usually use clamp fasteners for Brimnes cabinets, which work without drilling. They are easy to install and remain stable for a long time. Magnetic systems are also a good option if installed correctly.

Toddlers are true explorers, which makes things challenging. I secured similar furniture by using a combination of magnetic locks on the inside and additional latches. It is also important to regularly check whether the locks are still functioning properly, as children become more creative over time. Simply locking is not enough; you also need to ensure the furniture is stable to prevent accidents.
