Hello everyone, I am currently considering how much weight a Pax wardrobe can actually support without compromising stability or functionality. Specifically, I am interested in the maximum load per shelf and whether there are differences between the various models and sizes. I would also like to know how the load should be distributed to avoid damage, especially when storing heavy items like books or file boxes. Are there official specifications from Ikea on this, or any practical experience from real-life use? Thank you in advance for your insights!

Are you planning to store heavy items across multiple floors, or are you focusing on a single level? That could significantly influence the advice. Thank you for this important point. Actually, I mainly want to store heavy books and folders on a few levels, not across all floors. Of course, each shelf should be able to bear the load, but the frame structure must also safely support the weight. I have a 100x60 cm (39x24 inches) Pax wardrobe with 5 shelves. Wall mounting is planned. Are there any special reinforcements from Ikea or construction measures you would recommend if I want to increase the maximum load a bit?

As far as I know, Ikea does not sell additional reinforcements specifically for the Pax wardrobe shelves. One trick I used was to reinforce the shelves by attaching narrow strips of wood or metal underneath. These strips help prevent the panels from bending. Adding extra support rods that run from the back panel to the shelf can also help. I have personally had good experiences with this. Important: The strips should not prevent the removal of the shelves later on in case you want to make changes.
