Hello everyone,

I recently ordered the Ikea Pax wardrobe and now I’m wondering how much time I should generally allow for assembling the entire unit. Since the Pax system is quite modular and extensive, I’m especially interested in rough estimates – both for smaller models (e.g., 2 doors) and for larger versions with more components and accessories.

I would appreciate experience-based feedback from those of you who have already assembled one: How many hours did it usually take? Did you have help or did you manage it on your own? And were there specific steps that took up a lot of time?

I want to plan as realistically as possible, as I’d like to complete the assembly in one day if possible. Thanks in advance for your input!

For a simple PAX wardrobe with 2 doors, you should plan about 3 to 4 hours. If you are working alone, it may take a bit longer. Larger models with lots of accessories can easily require 5 to 6 hours.

I have read your post carefully, as I have assembled several PAX wardrobes myself. It is important to consider the time required from different perspectives:

- First, the size and complexity of the wardrobe matter. A standard model with just the frame and doors can be completed relatively quickly (3 to 4 hours).
- If the PAX system includes shelves, drawers, clothes rails, and additional modules, the assembly time increases significantly (up to 6 hours).
- Plan the assembly of the basic structure (mounting and adjusting the frame) as the first and often most time-consuming step. Fitting the doors, in particular, requires a lot of finesse and can take inexperienced DIYers several hours.
- Installing the drawers and shelves also requires precision work, as improper assembly can affect their functionality.

I definitely recommend working with at least two people to avoid difficulties with alignment and holding parts in place. Do you have experience with furniture assembly? I might be able to offer some tips if you are unsure about certain steps.

I can only confirm that. Assembly is much faster and less stressful with two people. If you’re working alone, you should allow at least 4 hours for a medium-sized PAX.

I think that’s quite accurate. However, from my own experience, it also depends greatly on preparation: if you carefully sort all the parts beforehand and follow the instructions step by step, you can avoid time lost searching or making mistakes.

Also, I would recommend taking short breaks now and then. This helps maintain focus, which makes a huge difference during more complex steps like door installation.

How do you usually approach assembly projects? Do you like to plan everything in advance, or do you tend to figure things out as you go?
