kikelaHello everyone,
I want to assemble a new IKEA Platsa wardrobe in my living room. Since I don’t have any experience with this model yet, I’m interested in the typical time required to assemble this type of wardrobe.
More specifically: How long does it usually take to fully assemble a PLATSA wardrobe from start to finish, including the installation of individual modules, doors, and interior fittings? Are there significant differences depending on the size of the wardrobe or personal DIY skills?
I look forward to your experiences and tips to help me plan better.

Hello kikela,
Regarding your question: The average assembly time for an IKEA PLATSA wardrobe largely depends on its size and your experience. For a medium-sized unit, say 120 cm (47 inches) wide with several drawers and doors, you can expect around 3 to 4 hours if you carefully follow the assembly instructions.
- Larger wardrobes with multiple units can take up to 6 hours or even longer.
- If you’re less experienced with DIY, it’s better to allow extra time to ensure careful assembly and to double-check the instructions when needed.
The included manual is quite clear, but plan additional time for sorting the individual parts. It’s also recommended to have two people working on the assembly, which makes the process easier and faster.
If you have any specific questions about the assembly process, I’m happy to help.

Hello kikela,
to add to the previous answers: I would say the time estimates are realistic. The assembly of a PLATSA wardrobe is clearly explained step-by-step in the manual, but it still requires some patience.
A major point is the correct alignment of the individual modules and the precise installation of the doors to ensure everything closes perfectly. So, if you want a high-quality result, you should plan for 4 hours or more.
A tip: take your time and carefully check all parts before starting the assembly.
I can only agree with that. Building it with two people is definitely much more relaxed.

In general, for average models (approximately 100 to 150 cm (40 to 60 inches) wide with standard features), the assembly time can be estimated at 3 to 5 hours. Factors influencing the time include:
- Number and type of modules: single wardrobe versus complex combinations
- Installation of drawers and doors requires precision
- Assembler’s experience
- Availability and preparation of tools
It is advisable to check all parts beforehand, carefully review the instructions, and have at least one helper available. This significantly improves efficiency and helps avoid mistakes.

If you don’t just want to put things together but really want to work precisely, you should definitely take your time. Especially with the PLATSA cabinets, incorrect adjustments to the doors or shelves can cause serious problems later on.
In my experience: allow at least 4 hours if you’re working alone, or about 2.5 to 3 hours if you have active help.
