Hello everyone,

I am planning to get the Ikea Brimnes chest of drawers because I am looking for a practical and affordable solution for my bedroom. However, I am a bit unsure about how durable these drawers are with regular use.

My question is: How long do the Ikea BRIMNES drawers typically last with daily use, opening and closing them several times a day? Are there any experiences with material fatigue, structural weaknesses, or other signs of wear that should be considered for long-term use?

I am especially interested in whether the rails and sliding mechanisms remain reliably functional over time or if repairs or replacements are often needed after a while. It would also be helpful to know how the wood and surface finishes hold up under heavy use.

I look forward to your detailed experiences and advice so I can make an informed decision.

Thanks in advance!

Hello dulila,

I would like to share my experience from several Ikea furniture purchases, including the Brimnes drawers.

The durability depends greatly on how they are used. In a bedroom, where the drawers are subjected to less stress, they often last 5 years or more without issues. In home offices or children’s rooms, where the drawers are opened frequently and sometimes handled roughly, their lifespan can be shorter.

If the drawer slides start to stick or become difficult to operate, you can often fix this yourself by:

- Cleaning the slides and treating them with some silicone spray (avoid oily lubricants, as they attract dust).
- Checking the screws and readjusting the drawers.

Regarding material fatigue of the wood, the panels are not solid wood but generally quite sturdy. However, water damage should be avoided because the MDF material can swell.

I recommend regular maintenance and proper use – then you can enjoy BRIMNES for several years.
