Hello everyone,

I am about to start installing my Ikea Metod kitchen fronts, and I have some questions, especially regarding the connection of the sink cabinet with the integrated sink.

How exactly is the water connection done for the Ikea Metod sink cabinets?
I am particularly interested in how the connections are designed inside the cabinet, whether any special brackets or pipes are supplied, and if Ikea provides pre-made cutouts or shaped channels for the supply lines.
It would also be helpful to know if this product line uses standard connections or if there are special considerations – for example, regarding flexible hoses or the placement of the stop valve.

I would like to understand the amount of preparation work involved before assembly and whether I should obtain any special materials in advance.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi, it’s actually pretty straightforward! Ikea usually supplies the basic frame and furniture parts for the Metod sink cabinet – you have to make the water connection yourself using standard parts.

Normally, the cutouts for pipes and hoses are pre-punched, so you can easily feed the flexible hoses through. There is often a small bracket or clip inside the cabinet for cable and hose management, but you need to adjust the supply lines yourself. The angle stop valve on the wall is usually already installed or must be installed by you.

So, make sure to note that you’ll need flexible hoses with fittings (usually 3/8 inch) and leave enough space behind the cabinet so nothing gets kinked.

Good luck, you’ll manage it! 😊

Regarding the Metod sink cabinet, I can clarify the following:

- Ikea usually does not supply complete water connection kits, only the furniture and cabinet components.
- Most sink cabinets have a pre-punched opening at the back to allow flexible hoses to pass through, but no special channels for concealed cable or hose routing.
- To secure the lines, existing brackets or other fastening options in the installation wall should be used, as Ikea does not include any dedicated brackets.
- The connection itself is made using standard flexible hoses (usually 3/8") from the angle valve to the faucet.
- The position of the angle valve on the house connection side is critical, as Ikea does not offer specific solutions or custom adaptations for this.

It is recommended to determine the correct hose type and lengths precisely before installation to avoid adjustments later.

I installed my Metod base cabinet for the sink last week and can say: Ikea does not include anything extra specifically for the water connection.

The cutouts in the cabinet are there, yes, but you have to get the hoses, trap, and angle valve yourself.

What I learned: Flexible metal or braided hoses are worth their weight in gold because they are easier to bend and less likely to kink. You can secure brackets with cable ties.

And very important: Pay close attention to the correct length, otherwise you will have problems with hoses that are too short.

A small tip: Align the trap precisely, otherwise the door will not close properly.

Very important: Yes, the Metod sink cabinets are designed to work with ordinary standard connections.

This means you can use standard 3/8'' fittings, regular flexible hoses, and standard angle valves commonly available at hardware stores.

I also recommend doing a test run before the final installation, especially if the cabinet is already assembled. This way you can check whether all connections fit properly and if there is enough space.

If you encounter difficulties beforehand, you can remove the sink to get better access to the connections.

It is also important to check the tightness of all connections before completing the installation to avoid any water damage later on.

Flexible metal or armored hoses are worth their weight in gold because they are easier to bend and don’t kink as easily.

Definitely my recommendation. 😄

I initially used regular rubber hoses, but they never fit quite right and were really tricky to work with. The armored hoses make installation much more enjoyable.

One more thing: Ikea Metod cabinets aren’t fully closed at the back, so you can easily run hoses and cables through them without much hassle.

Clamping is no big deal, we can handle that!
