ᐅ How does the warranty process work for Ikea PLATSA?

Good morning everyone,

I recently bought a Platsa dresser from Ikea, and I noticed that one of the drawers doesn’t close properly and the sliding mechanism is sticking. Since I’m not sure how the warranty process works for Platsa furniture at Ikea, I wanted to ask here in the forum how it usually goes in practice.

I’m especially interested in the following points:
- How long is the warranty on Platsa units?
- What steps do you need to take to report a defect?
- Do you always have to return the entire piece of furniture, or is a complaint at the store enough?
- Are replacement parts sent, or do you get a full replacement?
- Are there differences between warranty, statutory warranty, and goodwill repairs at Ikea in this context?

I would really appreciate detailed, practical experiences that can help clarify this for me. Thanks in advance!

For replacement parts, you usually need to send back the defective items, yes. Ikea typically provides a return shipping label.

There is no significant difference between buying online or in-store when it comes to warranty claims. The main requirement is to have the receipt or proof of purchase.

Can you also say something about whether the old damaged parts have to be kept when replacements are sent? Ikea often wants defective goods returned, but PLATSA is modular...

Good question. Generally, for warranty claims, there is an obligation to return the defective parts as part of the exchange. In practice, this means:
- Ikea sends replacement parts or a complete module
- Often, a return label for the defective parts is included
- The defective components usually must be returned to keep the warranty valid

Regarding the difference between online and in-store: both methods are basically possible. Online, you can often claim directly through your customer account, which speeds up the process. In physical stores, claims are handled immediately; if replacement parts are not in stock, they are sent by mail.

I would recommend requesting replacement parts for minor defects to save effort, and opting for a complete exchange for more significant damage.

Exactly! That’s how I did it, and everything went super smoothly! The Platsa modules are really very easy to handle, so the replacement doesn’t require much work.

So, don’t hesitate and calmly request spare parts directly from Ikea. It usually works quickly and hassle-free!

Great how you explain this here! I wanted to add that IKEA’s warranty often covers goodwill cases as well. Sometimes they even provide assistance after the 5-year period if there is a genuine quality issue.

I once had a PLATSA part where the hinge broke after 6 years. Just because of my polite call, I actually received replacement parts! So just stay nice and ask kindly, it often helps :-)

Let's be honest, Ikea's 5-year warranty is mostly a marketing strategy.

That is more the exception than the rule – most customers don’t get anything at that point. Since Ikea focuses on mass-produced goods, you shouldn't expect too much. But well, for the price, it might be acceptable. What do you think?

Honestly, that 5-year guarantee from Ikea is mainly just marketing.

I can understand your point of view, but from my experience, Ikea’s warranty is actually a reliable service. It is true that there are occasional limitations, but in most cases, the warranty process works well.

It is important to know your rights and not get discouraged if things get a bit difficult. Customer service is often cooperative if you remain polite – as I said, I have had good experiences with PLATSA and have received replacement parts multiple times.
