Sektionschef15 Aug 2012 09:12Hello
The IKEA online planner shows me an option for an electric push-to-open mechanism for the FA170 (base cabinet for sink with drawer), Utrusta item number 702.272.36.
Could someone please explain to me exactly how it works?
I am not entirely clear on it even after reading the installation manual.
Best regards

IKEA-Profi15 Aug 2012 09:31Do you mean during installation or in general?
The question is whether it’s really worth spending that much money on something like this...
Important product features
- The recycling bin can be opened with a push of a finger or by bumping it with your hip, knee, or foot; very convenient when your hands are full.

Sektionschef15 Aug 2012 09:34Are you referring to the installation or in general? I mean in general!?!What happens if I tap the drawer? Will it open by itself then???
I’ve already looked for a video, but there doesn’t seem to be anything...

Sektionschef15 Aug 2012 09:39And the installation instructions are not clear to me either.
I assume I need an electrical outlet near the cabinet, but where is the "sensor" or whatever it is supposed to be placed?

EinrichtungsNiete15 Aug 2012 13:38Yes, you of course need a power outlet somewhere nearby, since the device is electric...
From the installation manual, I gathered the following:
There is no separate "sensor"; everything is already built into the opener.
So, when you press against the front, the drawer opens a few centimeters (pushed forward).
What this is supposed to achieve is unclear to me, since you still have to open the drawer fully by hand...
But I find it somewhat amusing that it is automatically included in the kitchen planner.
They probably figure that with a kitchen costing several thousand euros, an extra 100 euros won’t really be noticed...

Sektionschef15 Aug 2012 14:20Thanks for the reply.
Could it be that the drawer fully extends after tapping it? That would make more sense.
However, even then, I would still need one hand free to open the lid of the waste container.
Does Ikea actually offer a solution, like other kitchens, where the lid of the waste bin opens automatically when the drawer or door is opened?
Does anyone in the forum have this electric push-to-open mechanism and can share more details about it?
Otherwise, on my next Ikea visit, I will ask where it is installed in the showroom and record a video of it.
