ᐅ How can I combine multiple Ikea BESTA units into a large configuration?

Hello everyone, I am planning to combine several Ikea Besta units into a large arrangement to create as much storage space as possible in my living room. I want to connect the modules in a way that ensures both stability and a cohesive appearance. My specific questions are:
- Which connectors or brackets are best suited to securely join the individual Besta cabinets?
- Are there any special structural or load-bearing considerations I should be aware of, especially when combining units of different heights?
- Do you have any practical assembly tips, such as the order of construction or the best way to fix the entire setup to the wall?
So far, I only have experience with single pieces of furniture, so I would really appreciate detailed advice on how to build a stable, large unit from multiple Besta modules.

- Always screw the modules together to prevent them from sliding against each other.
- For different depths, you can use small leveling surfaces or strips.
- Don’t forget wall mounts, especially for tall modules.
- When it comes to weight, make sure heavier items are stored lower to ensure stability.

Hello and good luck with your project! I can fully understand how challenging it is to assemble multiple modules harmoniously and securely.
What really helped me was carefully planning the dimensions and loads before construction and critically assessing where I actually need to store heavy items.
Sometimes it’s also acceptable to use small intermediate pieces in hidden areas or even custom-made connectors to improve stability.
If you’re unsure, it’s better to over-secure than under-secure – that also gives peace of mind.

Additionally, it’s worth checking the load capacity of the furniture and the connectors used based on technical specifications to avoid overloading and to build a well-designed system.
Thank you for the many suggestions. I have a question regarding the drill holes used for mounting brackets and wall installation: Are the drill holes in BESTA predefined, and do all modules generally fit together, or do different combinations require different drilling patterns?
It is important to me to avoid accidentally drilling into internal connecting elements or reinforcements.
Also, I am interested to know if Ikea provides an installation manual specifically designed for large combinations, or if individual modules are simply connected in the standard way.

Regarding the drilling pattern: Ikea standardizes the holes, and most BESTA modules are designed so that the drill holes for fittings and connectors are compatible within the same series.
Here are a few tips:
- Always use the included assembly instructions for each module.
- When connecting multiple modules, you can use the drill holes on the adjoining sides to screw the units together.
- The connectors are positioned so that they do not damage any load-bearing reinforcements.
- A combination of tall and low units sometimes requires minor adjustments, but usually the drilling patterns are compatible.
For very large combinations, you can also work with wooden battens to increase stability.
