Hello everyone, I am planning to combine several Ikea Besta units into a large arrangement to create as much storage space as possible in my living room. I want to connect the modules in a way that ensures both stability and a cohesive appearance. My specific questions are:
- Which connectors or brackets are best suited to securely join the individual Besta cabinets?
- Are there any special structural or load-bearing considerations I should be aware of, especially when combining units of different heights?
- Do you have any practical assembly tips, such as the order of construction or the best way to fix the entire setup to the wall?
So far, I only have experience with single pieces of furniture, so I would really appreciate detailed advice on how to build a stable, large unit from multiple Besta modules.

To connect the BESTA units, I recommend using the original Ikea connecting fittings, which are usually included. Alternatively, you can use standard furniture connectors. It is important to secure the furniture to the wall to prevent tipping hazards.

Hello, as an addition:
- Ikea offers special connectors (angle brackets and connecting plates) designed specifically for the BESTA series.
- When combining units of different heights, make sure the taller modules are always secured to the wall.
- Connecting multiple units works best if you assemble them individually first and then join them using the angle brackets.
- Also, ensure a level surface to avoid stress caused by uneven floors.
In general, it is important to prioritize stability by attaching units to the wall—this helps prevent issues under load or when children are around.

That’s a good point. I would also suggest connecting the individual modules not only to the wall but also to each other using sturdy brackets or metal connectors to create a continuous structure.

However, you should carefully check the wall's condition, as not every anchor holds equally well. For plasterboard (drywall), I recommend using special cavity anchors or even additional reinforcement behind the wall.

Thank you for the advice so far. I would like to add that I plan to stack two 60cm (24 inch) wide BESTA units on top of each other, with a row of lower cabinets next to them that are 40cm (16 inch) high. My idea is to use some open shelves combined with others that have doors.

Accordingly, I’m interested in whether there are special connection solutions for anchoring these different depths and heights to avoid stress? And how do you manage the weight of the individual parts, for example when heavy items are stored on top?

Hi, when combining different heights and depths, it is especially important to plan the unit so that loads are distributed evenly.

- Use the supplied connectors from Ikea, as they are designed for BESTA.
- For upper units, I recommend wall fasteners to prevent tipping.
- Stress often occurs due to uneven flooring – so check this beforehand.
- If possible, reinforce connections with additional angle brackets from the hardware store.

Good luck – the most important thing is thorough preparation, then it will work out well!
