Hello everyone,

I am looking for a practical guide on how to properly clean the inside of an IKEA Pax wardrobe. Specifically, I am interested in which cleaning products are suitable for the different interior surfaces, the best method to avoid damaging the surfaces, and whether there are any special tips for cleaning the rail systems or the back panels. My main goal is to achieve a long-lasting clean result without any residues or discoloration appearing over time.

I have done some research online, but many tips are either very general or incomplete, so I am hoping someone in this forum can share a detailed, experience-based procedure. Thanks in advance!

Hello,

I would recommend using only a slightly damp microfiber cloth and mild dish soap for most surfaces. Avoid harsh cleaners or solvents, as the paint cannot tolerate them.

For the tracks, simply clean with a dry cloth and use a small amount of silicone spray if needed, but use it sparingly.

You can gently wipe the back panels, but do not soak them.

Hello Manpau,

I have read your post and would like to provide you with a more detailed guide on how to thoroughly but gently clean the inside of a PAX wardrobe.

Ideally, you should start by completely emptying the wardrobe. This way, you can easily reach all parts and won’t miss any surfaces. Then, follow these steps:

- Cleaning the shelves and side panels: Use lukewarm water with a mild, pH-neutral cleaning agent (e.g., baby shampoo or a gentle dish soap). A soft microfiber cloth works best to pick up dirt. Make sure to wring out the cloth well, so no water seeps into the edges or joints, as moisture can cause the wooden edges to swell.

- Track systems for drawers and doors: Dust and dirt tend to accumulate here. It’s best to first carefully remove loose debris with a vacuum cleaner. Then, you can clean the grooves with a small brush or cotton swab. If the tracks are slightly stiff, use a special silicone spray or a non-sticky lubricant.

- Back panels: These are usually thin and delicate. You should only wipe them lightly with a damp cloth to prevent warping.

- Avoid aggressive cleaners such as scouring powders, harsh solvents, or alcohol, as these can damage the surfaces.

Finally, I recommend wiping all interior surfaces down thoroughly with a dry cloth to remove any moisture and keep the furniture dry.

In summary: clean gently and mildly, avoid aggressive chemicals, and pay special attention to tracks and back panels. Hope this helps!

Exactly, and I would like to add that when cleaning the rails, it is essential to ensure that no cleaning residue remains. Such residues can attract dust and, over time, affect the mechanism’s performance.

This is very important because PAX interior components are often coated or painted and can be sensitive to the wrong cleaners.

I clean the interior regularly with a microfiber cloth and a mild cleaner that is neutral to saliva and skin, since the furniture room can be exposed to humidity. Afterwards, wipe well with a dry cloth.

Additionally, I always take the time to remove the cabinet parts, if possible, to properly clean hard-to-reach areas such as drawer rails and connectors. This makes cleaning easier and extends the lifespan.

If you plan to use furniture oil on wooden elements, be careful and test it first in an inconspicuous spot.

I would like to add an important note:

When cleaning the inside of the PAX wardrobe, it’s useful to consider the humidity level in the room. Excessive humidity can damage the wardrobe materials over time and also promote mold growth. Therefore, you should occasionally air out the wardrobe and let it dry completely before putting everything back inside.

I also recommend avoiding soap residues, as they can leave unpleasant deposits. It’s better to wipe with a slightly damp cloth more often and then let the surfaces dry thoroughly.

Additionally, I suggest not cleaning or leaving the wardrobe in direct sunlight, as UV rays can cause the furniture surfaces to fade.

In short: use a mild cleaner, proceed carefully, ensure thorough drying, and don’t neglect the indoor climate.

If you have special surfaces, such as interior mirror or glass fronts, you can clean them separately and sparingly with a suitable glass cleaner to avoid streaks.
