GIANCARLOS30 Jun 2020 10:37Hello everyone,
I am currently working on assembling an IKEA Brimnes wardrobe and have some uncertainties regarding the installation of the drawers. Specifically, I wonder: How do you properly install the IKEA BRIMNES drawers so that they open and close smoothly and remain securely in place?
Although I have looked through the instructions, it is still unclear how exactly to position the drawer slides and in what precise order the drawers should be inserted. Are there any particular steps in the sequence or important details that should not be overlooked?
I would greatly appreciate any tips on common pitfalls or recommendations for the assembly, as a stable and durable build is important to me.
Looking forward to your support!

For the precise installation of the IKEA BRIMNES drawers, I follow the structured procedure below:
- First, mount the metal side rails inside the cabinet without the drawer. Work carefully using the supplied screws and wall plugs.
- It is important to position the rails exactly horizontally; the mounting holes usually allow for correct alignment.
- Then attach the drawers to the metal slides according to the instructions: use the plastic holders on the drawer side.
- The drawer insert clicks into place with an audible snap.
- After inserting, make further adjustments to the screws if the drawer does not run smoothly.
Before installation, it is advisable to check the individual components for any deformations or transport damage. Light silicone sprays are permitted for the slides if there is any sticking.
These steps ensure that the drawers remain easy to operate and sit firmly.

I can definitely understand how frustrating it is when you follow the instructions carefully and things still don’t go smoothly. I had a similar experience assembling my first BRIMNES.
It’s important to take your time and carefully align the rails – even a millimeter (0.04 inches) difference can cause issues.
If the drawer is hard to move, what helped me was removing it completely and gently wiping the guide rails in case dust or plastic residue had built up.
Keep at it; the result is really worth it when everything operates smoothly.
How far have you gotten with the assembly so far?

It is important to position the rails exactly level; usually, the mounting holes already allow for correct alignment. That makes sense and explains a lot. My rails definitely were not completely level, which I suspect caused the problem with the drawer being hard to slide.

If the drawer is hard to move, it helped me to completely remove it and carefully wipe down the guide rails.I will definitely try that today. It’s very good to know that dirt on the rails can affect smooth operation.
I have one more question: Do the rollers at the ends of the drawers need to be positioned in a certain end position after inserting, or does the system lock in automatically? I feel like with the last drawer, it didn’t work properly.
Thanks so far for the helpful answers.
The rollers at the ends of the drawers do not need to be fixed separately; they are part of the locking mechanism. After the drawer is pushed in, a slight push backward or downward ensures that the rollers properly snap into the holder.
If the last drawer does not feel securely fixed, please check the attachment of the guide rails inside the cabinet once more. Sometimes a screw is not fully tightened, or the rail is slightly misaligned.
My tip: Push the drawer all the way in and then slowly press down gently to make sure the rollers fully engage. Afterwards, open and close the drawer several times to check its function.
If the problem persists, you can also use a pointed object to check whether the plastic clip of the rollers is accidentally blocked.
