Good morning everyone, I have the following concern: I want to install an IKEA PLATSA system in my apartment on tiled floors. The problem is that the floor is very smooth, and I’m worried that the modules could easily slip or tip over without additional fastening.

My question is: What methods or products are best suited to securely and firmly attach the PLATSA system to smooth tiles or similar surfaces without damaging the floor?

Ideally, I’m looking for tips that don’t leave permanent marks but still provide strong support. Does anyone have experience with adhesive mats, special feet, or fastening systems for smooth floors?

Thanks in advance for your ideas and suggestions!

For smooth tiles, I recommend using non-slip rubber mats under the PLATSA feet. Alternatively, you can screw stabilizing brackets to the furniture and attach them to the wall. Screwing into the floor is usually problematic because of the tiles.

Hello Hansse,

I’m happy to provide a more detailed answer since securing PLATSA units on smooth tiles can be challenging.

- First, check if the furniture will be placed against a wall. If so, use the wall fasteners provided by IKEA for PLATSA. They prevent tipping and offer great stability.

- Since you want to protect the floor, drilling into the tiles is not ideal, as they can easily crack.

- A common method is to apply non-slip furniture pads or rubber strips under the furniture legs. These come in various thicknesses and have adhesive backing.

- For extra grip, you can also use foam rubber or cork mats about 3–5 mm (1/8–3/16 inch) thick, which can be cut to size. This creates a slip-resistant layer while protecting the floor at the same time.

- If you prefer a completely adhesive-free solution, securing the unit with tension rods between floor and ceiling is an alternative that works without drilling.

In summary:
- Don’t forget wall fastening
- Use non-slip pads or mats under the feet
- Avoid drilling whenever possible
- Use tension rods if needed

I hope this helps you.

Hey Hansse,

I equipped my PLATSA on tiles with self-adhesive rubber pads – they hold quite well, even if you occasionally push it. And don’t worry, the floor wasn’t damaged.

I can confirm that; it really was the best solution for me. If you need even more stability, you can secure it additionally with IKEA wall brackets.

Sure, it’s a bit fiddly, but it’s worth it. That way you avoid stress with broken tiles or ugly screws in the floor. 😉

As an addition: PLATSA systems come with mounting clips for wall attachment that also provide strong protection against tipping on smooth floors.

Tiles, as a smooth surface, are challenging for floor fastenings since screws and anchors are often not recommended.

A reliable alternative is combining wall-side fixing with anti-slip pads under the furniture feet. Rubberized furniture glides reduce the risk of slipping without damaging the floor.

I advise against permanent floor fastenings on tiles—the risks outweigh the benefits. If screwing is still planned, be sure to use tile drill bits and suitable anchors in advance, and have the installation checked by a professional.
