Hello everyone, I am planning to assemble an Ikea Pax wardrobe soon, but I currently do not have a drill available and would like to know how to put this wardrobe together without one. I understand that many parts have pre-drilled holes and require a specific assembly sequence, but I am wondering if there are practical alternatives or suitable tools that would still allow the assembly without compromising stability. What methods do you recommend for fastening the connectors or securing the back panel when no electric drill is available? I look forward to your tips and experiences, especially focusing on appropriate tools and techniques that people might already have at home.

I always wonder if it really makes sense to assemble furniture without a power drill, especially when the furniture is designed for such tools.I agree that a power drill is meant to simplify the process, but that doesn’t necessarily mean assembly without one will be poor quality. The strength of the joint depends more on correct assembly than on the tool used. With the right technique and patience, screws can be securely tightened by hand if done carefully.
On the other hand, it should be considered that the time saved by using a power drill is greater than any loss of stability when working carefully. For occasional assemblers, this is an acceptable compromise.
I want to share some easy-going motivation: assembling an Ikea Pax wardrobe completely without a drill feels like bouldering without chalk – it’s possible, but you’ll sweat ?. From a craftsmanship perspective, it’s definitely doable, but if you have a strong screwdriver or ideally a small hand drill, use it. Sometimes it helps to start screwing in the screws gently by hand and then apply a bit more pressure to avoid damaging the wood. An Allen key and a small hammer will be your best friends for the dowels and back panel nails. Have fun with the assembly – it’s going to be a success!
