Hello everyone, I am currently facing the challenge of securely installing Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets in an older apartment. My main concern is the old walls and their varying condition, as I want to avoid any risk of the cabinets eventually coming loose or damaging the wall. Does anyone have experience with the best and safest ways to attach Metod kitchen cabinets to mostly thin, sometimes crumbling, older walls? Are there special anchors, fastening techniques, or additional precautions to consider? I would really appreciate concrete tips or recommendations for suitable tools!

First, a stable, securely fastened wooden batten is mounted on the wall, and then the Metod wall cabinets are attached to it.That sounds very practical. Are there any recommendations regarding the type of wood or thickness? And which anchors did you use to secure the wooden batten? Should heavy-duty anchors be used, or can standard wall plugs work as well?
Before drilling holes, always use a hammer drill to check if the wall has cavities and to locate the load-bearing bricks. If there is a lot of air behind the surface, even the best anchor won’t hold. Alternatively, you can use ceiling suspension systems or freestanding shelving units.

It is important to align the cabinets precisely during installation to avoid the need for later adjustments.

How did you clean the holes before filling them, and how long did you wait for the curing time? Which chemical anchors would you recommend for a kitchen, especially regarding moisture?
Before pouring, thoroughly clean the holes with a brush and blow them out with compressed air to ensure better curing of the chemical adhesive. Wait at least 24 hours, ideally 48 hours if possible. For kitchens, heat- and moisture-resistant epoxy resins are suitable. Additionally, it is recommended not to keep the cabinets fully loaded permanently, especially during the initial phase.
