Hello everyone, I recently got the Ikea Platsa system and want to securely attach some accessories to it. Specifically, I’m looking to install drawers and hanging cabinets as firmly and permanently as possible, so they don’t wobble or come loose during use. Are there any special tips for properly using the included screws and wall plugs? What types of wall fixings are recommended, especially when dealing with different wall materials like concrete or drywall (plasterboard)? And how can I install the accessories in a way that maintains the modularity of the Platsa system without making future modifications difficult? I look forward to your experiences and recommendations!

The attachment of Ikea Platsa accessories largely depends on the wall type and the intended load. Thanks for the advice on load capacity. Could you briefly explain the difference in installation when dealing with a load-bearing concrete wall compared to a standard drywall? Specifically, which types of anchors and screws are best suited? I have concrete in the basement, but drywall in the living room upstairs.

Could you possibly briefly explain the difference in approach when working with a load-bearing concrete wall compared to a simple drywall partition? For concrete walls, expansion anchors or toggle bolts with suitable screws are often the best choice. They provide high load capacity and strong holding power. A drill with a masonry bit is required. For drywall with a cavity behind, cavity anchors or metal toggle bolts work best, as they spread inside the cavity and hold firmly. I would avoid plastic anchors in drywall when heavy loads are involved. Screws should ideally be long enough to engage deeply in the anchor without damaging the wall.
Great thread! It’s really enjoyable to follow along here. What I’ve always done is to attach all accessories loosely at first, then align them properly, and finally tighten all screws evenly. This way, everything fits securely, and you can really look forward to the storage space afterwards! 😄👍
